Excellent, Eliot. You might want to take some time to
review the concepts of OLAPs (online analytical processors)
in conjunction with this synthesis of relational and hierarchical
'views'. The axes and coordinate concepts should look familiar
to you. Note the additions to SQL used to work with the
n-dimensional cubes, and the fact that regular table
structures and SQL can be used to get the same results.
The issues of naming are also interesting. It occurs
to me that simple prefixing isn't sufficient because
namespaces nest.
There is an extensive document on the Microsoft developers
site about OLAP technology.
