I don't think you need to wait - there's plenty of stuff around that
gives indications of how this is going to pan out. The obvious
commitment to XPath is worth starting with - and to parse that into SQL
queries is not that difficult. At least then you're on the right road,
and starting to address some of the issues.
More sophisticated approaches are the WebDAV 'property find' type angle,
which is more difficult to implement but is very powerful once done.
