I don't know of a canonical scripting language for XML, but the
Document Object Model (DOM) is a widely-implemented language-
neutral interface for XML. The specification includes ECMAScript
and Java bindings, but there are several implementations in other
languages as well (see
http://dmoz.org/Computers/Programming/Internet/W3C_DOM/
for some of these). See http://www.w3.org/DOM for some more
information.
