Correct -- SAX was not designed for this type of application.  Think
of SAX as an interface that reports the logical rather than the
physical structure of a document.  Of course, SAX can be extended to
provide extra information, and the long-stalled SAX2 (mea culpa) was
designed to give a framework for doing just that.
