XIOP is an open source project whose aim is to merge OMG Corba 2.3 / 3
with XML and HTTP technologies.

One of the projects goal is to support full GIOP 1.2 semantics /messages

using HTTP 1.1 /SSL and XML 1.0. It is also possible to transfer raw and

unchanged IIOP (CDR encoded) messages over the HTTP protocol.

The encoding framework is based on GREN which is an Information Model
with strong ISO Groves ties.

Serialization of object / value graphs are included in the
specification.

Support for XML signatures will be included before first release of the
specification.

The following link shows a number of use cases for XIOP:
<http://xiop.sourceforge.net/doc/images/XIOP_1_2_UseCasesTest.jpg>

What is missing is the G use case which is: Logging of messages.

A number of reference implementations are in the works including:
*Microsoft COM (C++)
*Apache Xerces (Java)
*Java Client (Java)

All implementation volunteers and specification reviewers are of course
welcome.

See project website for more information:

Current status:
Specification v0.22:  80 % done, 10 % prototyping ,details, 10 %
documentation
Reference implementations: 15 %

Best Regards,
Anders W. Tell  (project maintainer)
