Mightn't your better course of action be to point out the place in the XML
or Unicode spec where they are non-compliant. This is more definitive than
relying on one tool or another.

Do you know precisely what the problem is? We've seen the MSXML handle
control characters that are valid UTF-8 characters but are not valid *XML*
characters. Expat rejected the resulting file. A quick check of the
annotated spec showed who was in the wrong.

Subject: IE5 and UTF-8

Hi all,
I am having a problems with a supplier that sending XML docs that fail to be
parsed by JAXP due to UTF-8 encoding errors. The supplier claims that docs
have been parsed by IE5 before, hence it validates that the XML is good.

My problem is to convince them that IE5 is not the correct tool to validate
XML docs. I have tried to locate articlea that indicate the conformant
levels of IE5, but failed. I have found the articles that Tim Bray has
written on IE5 but they don't highlight specific UTF-8 handling issues.

So does anyone know of a link that highlights the reasons not to use IE5 as
a validating parser?

PS. How can the xml-dev archives be searched online?

adios
