DCOM, RMI, CORBA are technologies that are a better fit in a homogeneous
environment.
Consider a company who wants to have hundreds of trading partners and those
partners run applications on a variety of platforms (AS/400, Solaris,
Windows 2000, HP/UX, OpenVMS, etc.).
How are you going to use RMI, for example, with a partner whose applications
are written in Visual Basic?
