Re: [xml-dev] Getting rid of entities (was: misprocessing namespaces)

Rick Jelliffe scripsit:

> Why not just bring back CDATA entities from SGML, if you want include-as-text?

XInclude elements require no declarations: one inserts them at the
appropriate point only. They are more familiar to webheads, being
closely analogous to IMG links, and are more convenient to use.

> Why the extra layer that breaks validation?

Breaks *DTD* validation. More reasonable kinds of validation can be
applied in a pipeline either before XInclude processing or after
it or both.

Layering is a *good* thing.

> What is a "partial document" in this usage?

One specified by an XPointer. XInclude defines fixup rules for the
meaning of including an "unbalanced" range.

To say that Bilbo's breath was taken away is no description at all. There
are no words left to express his staggerment, since Men changed the language
that they learned of elves in the days when all the world was wonderful.
