RE: [xml-dev] dtds, schemas, xhtml, and multimedia technologies

I stand corrected.
All the same, AC was standardized before it became a standard.

Correct me if I have this story wrong.
As I recall from the History Channel,
it was Edison who was pushing DC. He fired
an employee, Nikola Tesla, who was championing
AC (actually invented it). Tesla went to Westinghouse
and I think it was Westinghouse who made AC a
working proposition. It was discovered in
implementation that DC simply didn't scale
and that AC could be pushed down the lines
with fewer plants at lower costs.

Implementation proved the point.

Just FYI, a tiny little company called General Electric created that
standard at the behest of an employee named Thomas Edison. GE choose AC and
pushed that. After the AC / DC argument was won, it became a standard.

I have noticed that industry standardization and official standards are
easily confused. Often companies need a standardized product more than an
Official Seal of Approval (sic).
