I don't think the problem is politics - it's infrastructure.  A lot of
people are uncomfortable going to churches where the front steps are
missing a few boards, where the doors are frequently locked as people
arrive for services, where the pews fall through the floors
periodically, and where the ceiling looks like it might fall down at any
minute.

Churches tend to avoid such problems by putting money or sweat into the
building. The current benefactor has made it clear that such work is not
a priority, and organizing a collection plate for people to help seems
difficult in the current situation.  That's a different set of problems
than political faith.
