overview of all the players and all the specs "out there" in the Web 
services space.  There are numerous axes of cleavage -- a lot of people 
seeking the mythical "first mover advantage", a certain amount of 
organizational "NIH", a lot of industry politics, and the wretched 
intellectual property rights issues.

It will all get sorted out when there is enough real experience with some 
of these technologies to know what actually works to solve real-world 
problems, and when/if the parties involved accept the premise that one free 
basis for real interoperability beats n proprietary opportunities to 
embrace, extend, and tax Web transactions.  I liked Michael Sperberg- 
McQueen's observation quoted in the last paragraph of the InfoWorld piece 
in that regard.
