To be fair there is - or should be - a lot of room for data processing
applications without the markup claims piling on.
Of course, to pick a couple of examples, LISP folks say such things about
imperative computing while mainstream programmers say such things about lambda
calculus. Relational purists say such things about SQL while DBAs say such
things about the gnomic symbology of relational calculus.
And the world turns...
