| Can "DAML +OIL" replace "XML"?
DAML+OIL is about to be superseded by OWL, so that's very unlikely.
It's also very unlikely that OWL will replace XML, since OWL (like
DAML+OIL) is essentially only a schema language for RDF.
So the question becomes:
Can "RDF" replace "XML"?
I think the answer is clearly yes. RDF is clearly much better suited
to information interchange of the kind that XML seems to be used for
most of the time. The only thing that XML does better than RDF is
really document management, but few people seem to use XML for that
any more.
However, I would be very surprised indeed if RDF did replace XML,
since XML is so well entrenched by now, and also because while RDF may
be "better" in some technical sense it is also more abstract than XML,
and if history has taught us one thing, it is that highly abstract
technologies are unlikely to catch on.
