  Considering the XML file given nothing allows the XML processor
to not preserve them, moreover the XPath data model requires to see
those text node.
  On the other hand the question is weak because XPath has no conformance
clause, so the question would have to e asked on the context of a 
processing (XSLT/ XPointer/ DOM 3/ ...) environment which define
conformance.
  Still from an XSLT viewpoint the answer is unambiguously 5.
