In a way the environment to study this already exists at google, what
with its monitors showing search patterns in nearly real time I suppose.
This is analogous to an environment modeling computation, and also
matches the needs of most complexity studies for an output consumable by
human sense, generally visual or aural, as computers are not fine tuned
enough yet to discern the patterns in the data they 'see'.
James' pointer to the Scientific American study is also interesting; I
remembered reading it once it was pointed to.
I wonder if such Chain letter studies when taken further will allow one
to pinpoint likely origins of Chain letters (given that the first poster
in a chain could be a spoof.)
