If you want to be able to store XML document at the Enterprise level based on XML Schemas then an Oracle 9i database offers some nice features.  If you are in a relational environment it also allows the schema components to be associated with relational tables to form integrity constraints.

However, you do need to be fairly comfortable designing your own schemas and with Oracle databases.

With Cocoon (apache.cocoon.org) you could do something like that quite easily
and it exists I think
