i know of two Microsoft XML luminaries, who i won't name here,
who use nothing but James Clark's XML mode for Emacs ..

sadly my brain is hard-wired for vi, so find myself using 
":!stdinparse %" though i recently scored a free license for 
XMLSpy which is OK apart from one or two annoying bugs.
