The discussion about ISO standards included some comments about repositories.
That reminded me of Douglas Engelbart's Open Hyperdocument System as a solution
for building knowledge repositories. To find the status of OHS, I did a Google
search and stumbled across a very interesting series of streaming media
presentations (about 3 minutes each).
Engelbart's December 1968 presentation at the Fall Joint Computer Conference was
recorded. You can watch the demonstration he gave of the NLS system that marked
several milestones in computing:
-1st public demonstration of the mouse
- using a hierarchical view control to navigate through hierarchies
- clicking on links to jump to other locations
- collarboration between people working at two separate work stations
