Version 1.1 of the MusicXML file format has now been released. Version 1.1 adds
70 new features to version 1.0, mostly in the area of music formatting. Files
saved in the MusicXML 1.1 format can now include full information about how
notes, symbols, measures, staves, systems, credits, and pages appear in a
printed score. All valide MusicXML 1.0 files are also valid MusicXML 1.1 files.
Version 3.0 of our Dolet for Finale plug-in for Windows and Macintosh, now in
beta test, supports the new MusicXML 1.1 format. It is scheduled for release
this summer.
MusicXML now works with over 40 different programs running on Windows,
Macintosh, and Linux systems. These include notation editors like Finale and
Sibelius, scanners like SharpEye Music Reader and PhotoScore Professional, plus
newer programs like automatic page turners for orgnists and pianists.
When we started the MusicXML project, we were counting on XML providing a
common, easy to use development environment that would make it much more likely
for music software developers to adopt a standard interchange format. It
worked!
