RE: [xml-dev] RE: MusicXML 1.1 saving from Sibelius; XML document adopti

"For musicians that is an interesting direction because thinking about
"music in terms defined by notation is going away. Notation is like latin
"for most musicians; I wonder if MusicXML could change that?

Umm... lot's of other data can be wrapped around music and is.
MusicXML allows you to think about all of those not so much as
a single notation, but a single multivariate data type. Most
musicians are not just musicians. They may also be writers,
actors, dancers, filmmakers, directors and on and on. The
big deal is multimedia. Theatre. (also training, documents,
yadda yadda but who cares. :-)

It's a hobby project of old, but it can let us
apply transform techniques to compositions such
that semiotic effects can be achieved. Semiotic
effects in multimedia are created as synchrhonized
contrasts, so robotics for art. So having MusicXML
to help create contrasts (metadata) could be cool.

The only issue for what MusicXML does is that Midi does
the mechanical side of that now. XML is helpful in
having a complete description of ALL of the tracks
such that they are always exportable, for example,
the midi/waveform/text/graphic track entries. That
way, one can easily pick up a project and move it
to another studio, and in recording, that is quite often
to use fresh ears and better toys.

For the composition of music, nothing is better
than better toys and fun.

As to choosing a tool for the job, musicians will decide.
I was very glad to see MusicXML in GuitarPro. Fun!

The XML question about MusicXML is what XML has to offer over any
well-made and open but not XML document format for music, Lilypond in
particular. As powerful as XML is, it is not the right tool for every
job.
