Which leaves things wide open to the generic 'text' item being licensed.

As Tei says, there seems little else.

It's not a case of liking GPL or LGPL, they just do not seem appropriate
for XML or a Schema.

Thanks for all the input. If my reading (and advice) comes up with 
anything reasonable, I'll come back to you.

I'm hoping Mike Kay is setting his lawyers off writing for the MK 
licence though! That would do nicely!
