Our industry is incredibly unscientific in the way people make such
hand-waving statements, based usually on what people heard last night from a
mate in the pub. I don't have any data, but I certainly wouldn't accept such
statements at face value without reliable sourcing.

What is certainly true is that it's only in the last couple of years that
client-side XSLT has been an option on the public web if you want to avoid
disappointing some of your potential audience.
