Also nothing in the xqueryx spec will tell you that is the xqueryx to 
add two numbers, you have to reverse engineer the xqueryx->xquery 
stylesheet to find out what is the xqueryx syntax equivalent to any 
xquery syntax.

The situation is not at all like that of the xml and compact syntaxes 
for RelaxNG where the two syntaxes are described in the same way being 
syntax for the underlying language constructs. Xqueryx is very much a 
second class citizen compared with the non-xml xquery syntax as it is 
only defined in terms of a syntax level translation to the standard syntax.
