Dimensions are used extensively with XBRL; which is used for modeling
financial data - both narrative and monetary.
You can view one example in the proposed updated 2011 US GAAP Financial
Reporting Taxonomy here - http://tiny.cc/hiwio, which currently includes
several hundred hypercubes. Just about all of the ELRs include one or more
hypercubes.
A good example of a hypercube with several axis can be found at element
"DerivativeInstrumentsGainLossByHedgingRelationshipByIncomeStatementLocation
ByDerivativeInstrumentRiskTable". This particularly hypercube includes 3
axis. A company that makes this disclosure may not model it with the 3 axis
in one hypercube but the option is there.
Current examples of the prior taxonomy in use can be found on the SEC
website. A good listing and starting point is here -
http://edgardashboard.xbrlcloud.com/.
Personally, I think being able to view multi-dimensional information in 3D
would be very useful and powerful.

to 3 dimensions?
unsure what you mean, e.g. are you suggesting some 'dimension axis' or
perhaps you want to represent in xml 3 dimensions (svg prob has some
good examples of this along with a host of other markup languages).
