Subject: XPath 2.0, XQuery 2.0 and Supporting Documents are Revised
Recommendations
Date: Thu, 16 Dec 2010 18:09:38 -0600

Dear Advisory Committee Representative,

It is my pleasure to announce that the following documents are now
published as W3C Recommendations (Second Edition):

     http://www.w3.org/TR/2010/REC-xpath20-20101214
XML Path Language (XPath) 2.0 (Second Edition)

     http://www.w3.org/TR/2010/REC-xquery-20101214
XQuery 1.0: An XML Query Language (Second Edition)

     http://www.w3.org/TR/2010/REC-xqueryx-20101214
XML Syntax for XQuery 1.0 (XQueryX) (Second Edition)

XPath is a language for selecting parts of XML documents; XQuery and
XQueryX are query languages for selecting, joining and manipulating
XML documents. All three languages operate on any data source that can
be represented as instances of the XQuery and XPath abstract Data Model.

Also published are second editions of the following supporting
documents:

     http://www.w3.org/TR/2010/REC-xpath-datamodel-20101214
XQuery 1.0 and XPath 2.0 Data Model (XDM) (Second Edition)

     http://www.w3.org/TR/2010/REC-xpath-functions-20101214
XQuery 1.0 and XPath 2.0 Functions and Operators (Second Edition)

     http://www.w3.org/TR/2010/REC-xslt-xquery-serialization-20101214
XSLT 2.0 and XQuery 1.0 Serialization (Second Edition)

     http://www.w3.org/TR/2010/REC-xquery-semantics-20101214
XQuery 1.0 and XPath 2.0 Formal Semantics (Second Edition)

All Members who responded to the Call for Review of the Proposed
Recommendation [1] supported the specification and agreed to its
publication as a W3C Recommendation without changes.

The second editions of these specifications incorporates errata and
clarifications. During the review period a number of additional issues
arose. Some of these required further clarification, and some required
changes to the test suite. The Working Groups elected to issue a new
revision of the test suite and to solicit more results; this cycle
took a long time, but the result has been a greater level of
interoperability. In the meantime, additional issues reported are
being processed and will either be part of a third edition or will be
incorporated into the next version (3.0) of the specifications (which
were also updated today by the Working Groups).

Please join us in congratulating the XSL Working Group [2] and the XML
Query Working Group [3] on their achievement.

This announcement follows section 8.1.2 [4] of the W3C Process
Document. Due to the number of specifications, we have not included
the status sections and abstracts in this email.
