In SAX terms the start and end cdata section events are reported, and
the contents reported as characters.
The data model that it's parsed into may or may not keep hold of the
start/end events, xdm doesn't contain them so your XSLT won't know
about them.
A few years ago I wrote a wrapper around the parser to convert to
lexical events into markup:

...but you could do the similar thing from within your xslt using
unparsed-text(), xsl:analyze-string and then saxon:parse (or
equivalent) extension.
