Berkeleyian question: if there are no VMS systems left executing, does
their time still elapse? :-)
Fortunately, we don't have to decide. There are still many Vaxen running
in U.S. military installations, particularly in (large) embedded systems
like fighter jets and submarines. In addition, OpenVMS is alive and
well on Itanium and Alpha: the last release was in April 2016, and a
new release is expected early next year. Emulators for the VAX and
most other DEC systems are freely available.
