AFAIK there is no intention to upgrade the stylesheets to XSLT 2.0 until
XSLT 2.0 is at least Candidate Recommendation.
A while ago I assembled short document describing all extensions used by
DocBook stylesheets. It hasn't been updated for 2 years but still might
be usefull as a quick insight into extensions API.
