Because some users including me want to write
<date>15. listopadu 2005</data>
or
<date>15.--17. listopadu 2005</data>
which is hard to satisfy with strong datatyping. I think that for
document oriented vocabularies like DocBook it is better not to be very
strict about datatypes.
