I agree that the behavior on non-numeric values is unspecified by the
standard, but what's worse is that it is not specified (a) whether
a cell equal to value1 or value2 succeeds (what do your implementations
do?), and (b) whether only the case value1 < cell < value2 is meant to
be true, or also the case value2 < cell < value1.
