I'm not sure how useful it is to define a canonical URL for the media resource. Clients should be hypermedia-driven; I can't think of a use case for clients to try and construct this URL.

I can think of cases for adding /$value to the end of a property to get the raw value of the property, so section 4.5 should remain.

I agree that *any* URL convention should support temporary/permanent redirects. Perhaps we should add this to the introduction in Section 4, Resource Path of the URL Conventions document?
