I'm assuming that there would have to be another way to make explicit spaces that are not collapsed into a single white-space space.  So, instead of <text"s>, it would be necessary, e.g., to use runs of &nbsp; character entities in the place of a <text:s>.

This seems like an unprofitable reason for breaking current interoperability.
