   What is the purpose of ANY keyword ?

Hi,

What's the purpose of ANY keyword in a otherwise strictly formed 
syntax of XML ?

Also is this right if I say that :

"If a top level element of a DTD has a content specifier -
ANY, all the documents will be well-formed and VALID,
as far as they contain the elements from that DTD in any order."
