I think that making the syntax trivial to learn is the least
of the problem. The real issues lie in applicability and
in the problems XML is being applied to. Even today it doesn't
require a lot of work to apply XML to a problem... but then
again, it takes a fair amount of skill to apply XML to the
problem *meaningfully*.
