Before WWI, E.M. Forster (Room with a View, A Passage to India, etc.) wrote
what seems to me to be a remarkably prophetic parable on the cosequences of
monopolistic technology run rampant, a short story called: The Machine
Stops.
I'd suggest that regardless of which particular conglomerate, organisation
or cartel has tried, is trying or will try to seize the reins, the basic
concepts within the story are something we need to be taking very seriously
*right now*.
