This is the tack I took in Pyxie. Pyxie is 
an open source XML processing library for
Python that is entirely based on a simple post-SAX notation
I call "PYX". PYX is essentially a stripped down ESIS.
The library is Open Source and will be available
at http://www.pyxiw.org after XML'99.
