Hi Miles,

Miles said:
Like, for example, the fact that they're the stats for a
_single_ site. StatMarket, now unfortunately a paid for service,
has much broader coverage. See,

http://statmarket.com/html/sample_browsers.html

which shows that although Microsoft is well in the lead, IE5
only has an 8.3% share.

Didier replies:
You are right let's cool down. We need more rigueur here with the numbers.
And even the Statmarket sample do not reflect the real situation since the
sample stats are for August 1999. Since then, I am sure the numbers changed.
But even at that time, the end of the page has an important sentence:

StatMarket reports that Microsoft now accounts for approximately 75% of all
browsers used on the Internet.

So, now the question is: today, what is the Microsoft market share
percentage and in that percentage what is the market share of IE 5. This way
we would know what is the proportion of XML browsers in the field. This,
until Mozilla hit the market where we'll have to take into account the
number of Mozilla browsers in addition to IE v5 and up.

Cheers
Didier PH Martin
