Does anyone know (or might venture a guess) how many XML-enabled business
document servers are in operations in the U.S. today? I'm talking
specifically of servers dedicated to performing e-commerce transactions. thx

No question there has to be semantic agreement. Those issues are being
addressed:

"Syntax-Neutral Definition of Business Semantics"
Martin Bryan

"Executable Trading-Partner Agreements in Electronic Commerce"
Martin Sachs, Asit Dan, Thao Nugyen, Robert Kearney, Hidayatullah, Daniel
Dias
