XML Ain't What It Used To Be

Just read this article on XML.com and I have to agree. The preponderance of
new XML specs/standards seems to have turned a relatively simply mark-up
language into a full blown, rather complicated software development
environment. But, anyone doing XML development work is certainly not forced
to use all of these standards. Case in point is the expat parser which is
utilized/integrated into PHP. No XPath, no XSLT, no schemas...just a small,
fast parser that does one thing and one thing well, parse XML.
The point is, you can make your XML based solution as simple or as
complicated as you like. It depends on what your requirements are.
