Another point, which I'm surprised hasn't been mentioned, is when type
information is needed. For example if you are using ID/IDREF attributes
within your documents it is very possible that you will *need* a DTD to
identify which attributes are indeed ID attributes. This may be less of an
issue for in-house code-- but if you are using a public XSLT engine it can
become problematic quickly.
