Hmm, my memory seems to tell me that the first wave of Ada 
compilers were quite a bit more robust and reliable than the first 
few releases of Java.  On the other hand, they didn't include a 
virtual machine.  On another hand, my mental image of Java 1.0 is
as of a fairly stripped down language with not a lot of fat, while
Ada suffered from severe complete-ism from day one.

Another victory for those who dared to do less. -Tim
