This is the reason why things like the whole ID-processing discussion is 
misguided. 

With tools like DynaText/DynaWeb/Panorama etc. etc. the tools had a fair 
amount of generic processing ability, and so it was pretty easy to build 
robust hypermedia systems. Somewhere along the way, XML lost that... or 
rather the focus changed so the tools support a lot of standards that have 
little with getting the job done.
