This is still not about encodings. Encoding is about how to transform
integers (character numbers) to binary form. Think of UTF-8 or UTF-16 as
methods to convert any integer (character number or not) to a certain
binary form. ASCII, EBCDIC and ISO 8859-1 are encodings too, but what's
more important with these are that they are coded character sets (their
name imply a certain set of characters in a certain order).

My message was about having a flexible way to select certain intervals of
Unicode numbers, not about how to transform character numbers to binary form.

After some more thinking and understanding however, I'm beginning to see
the good sides in XML 1.1. If there is another XML version one day, I'd
like to see many of these changes included. I wouldn't go as far as saying
that the changes justifies a new version, but I still think they are good
changes. There's some reservation here, until I understand all of it... :-)
