I love the way that W3C specifications can sometimes throw up disconnected
questions.
In the XForms 1.0 CR the phrase, "XPath variables that change in value from
one recalculate to the next ..." started me thinking about just what I think
I know about "XPath variables".
Tacitly, I think I had assumed that "XPath variables" are immutable, possibly
because I typically meet variables in connection with XPath expressions in
the context of XSLT 1.0.
A quick look through XPath 1.0 REC and XPath 2.0 WD revealed remarkably
little information about "XPath variables". I certainly couldn't find
anything to confirm my earlier tacit assumption that they are immutable.
In fact, I am even beginning to wonder if XPath variables actually exist.
.... Not, of course, that that is a question of life or death! :)
