My suspicion is that XML looks like whatever you came from.  If you're
an RDBMS person, it seems like an odd attempt at RDBMS (see Fabian
Pascal for this.)  If you're a hierarchical DBMS person, it's an odd
HDBMS thing.  If you're an HTML person, it's HTML where you pick the
tags.  If you're an OOP person, it's just an object serialization (see
Don Box's early XML writings).

The only way I know to really survive that is to come from all the
above; in other words, to be a dilletante.

I guess I plead guilty on that.
