Software alone
does not a platform make.
Keep
in mind, the wheel grinds somewhat mindlessly. It
was
observed by one columnist (I don't have the URL) that while
the
open source folks want to assert that they are taking on the
BigCos, it is the small shops that they are putting out of business
in
some cases.
Karma
makes fools of the willful.

The only realistic way to begin that
process in many (non-Western) countries is to use open source software. Labour
is relatively cheap. Hardware is relatively cheap. There are lots of people, so
buying multiple legal software licenses for MS and other shrink wrap technology
is totally unrealistic. Two choices in those countries - open source or pirated
MS etc software.
