For the way most people practice use case I'd have to agree with you.
However, there is a school of thought (which we ascribe to and attempt to
practice) that takes use case to a lot lower levels and a lot more detail
while simultaneously embellishing it with simple class and activity diagrams
that certainly doesn't trivialize anything.
