Also note that we have been working hard to get meaningful semantics for untyped documents.
Hi Michael,
Coincidentally I have just sent a post to the list where I concluded with a comment to similar effect.
I think that those efforts have gone a very large way in recent months to get to a position where, in XSLT terms, the XSLT 2.0 stylesheet author can do most / all of what he/she wants to do. No, I am not yet satisfied on all points, not least because I haven't had time to work systematically through the 2nd May tranche of documents, but I am hopeful that remaining uncertainties / problems / misunderstandings will be ironed out.
The posts on this list recently indicate that it is XSLT processor implementors who perceive/have problems and simply won't ... judging by the comments made ... engage in further discussion.
This gives you strong typing if you validated and have typed data and weak typing
with implicit casts if you have untyped data. The later you can even statically type if you want to.
One problem about the ten drafts is that someone coming to them fresh would find them intimidating. For someone to come to them with a mind filled with doubts, it would be better if there were an easier way in to the document set to allow them to see the wood for the trees.
