WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) generated a DTD for patent
information for the purpose of electronic filing of patents. The Patent
Cooperation Treaty (PCT) format is discussed and described on Robin Cover's
excellent site at http://xml.coverpages.org/wipo-pct.html. The best person
to contact with any queries is Paul Brewin at the European Patent Office.
The USPTO has an SGML DTD for patent applications:
http://xml.coverpages.org/uspto.html. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for
either of these to move to XML Schema though.

Does anyone know of an XML Schema for describing a patent?
