Doing it for free:
1. open the document using
OpenOffice
2. save it in OpenOffice's own format, which will give
it a file extension of sxw
3. unzip the content.xml file from the sxw
file
You'll find any table(s) marked up using elements and
attributes from the OpenOffice table namespace, which after a brief glance looks
pretty good (for example, it covers cells that span columns).

Are there any tools
to easily convert a table in word to XML?
thanks
